Statement of Faith

Affiliated members of the College of Christian Theology Bangladesh have come together for the purpose of training men and women to serve their communities. Though these member organizations represent a variety of theological traditions, they are united in the task of assisting the church in Bangladesh to proclaim the good news of salvation brought by God through the Lord Jesus Christ to all people, and to maintain the faith of the Church in the one, true, almighty and merciful God, perfect in unity, existing eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe we can only do this as we acknowledge the authority of the God and seek guidance from his Spirit to lead us into the truth, to empower us to live in the light of Christ, and to do His work.

We acknowledge our particular responsibility to the people of Bangladesh, for we believe that it is by faith in Christ alone that they and all people may receive salvation. He is the culmination and perfection of God’s revelation to humankind and through His divine nature, His incarnation as true man, His perfect life, sacrificial death on the Cross, His bodily resurrection, ascension, eternal priesthood and reign, He is the only Lord and Saviour. He alone can restore fallen humanity to their full stature and dignity, showing forth the image of God in which they were created, and free them from condemnation and power of sin to which humanity and all creation is enslaved.

We believe that thus transformed, we are called to act as salt and light in our communities. Our final hope is not of this world, but in Christ’s coming again in judgment and glory, in the eternal inheritance kept by Christ for His people, and God’s establishment of his kingdom in its fullness.

We acknowledge the particular need of the constant and diligent study of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We accept their supreme authority as the rule of faith and as containing all that is necessary for salvation, while recognizing that the Scripture needs to be continually interpreted and applied to our present situation.

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, and that Christ is the head of this body. Apart from this the college does not insist on a definitive form of the church, but we acknowledge our nature and vocation as “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to declare the wonderful deeds of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light”.

We believe that God gives Spiritual individuals gifts for leadership and service to the Church, and that the College has a particular calling to assist in equipping the church and developing these gifts for the glory of God.
